Our Approach

Care that meets you where you are.

Every family is different. Some want overnight hands so they can actually sleep. Some want daytime presence, a warm meal, and a chance to shower. Some want both. Some just want someone to answer the question they keep Googling at 2am.

"We match your rhythm to the right kind of care โ€” not the other way around."

What we offer

Support, shaped around your family.

Some want overnight hands. Some want daytime presence and a warm meal. Some want both. We match your rhythm to the right kind of care โ€” and the right doula to bring it.

Antepartum Support

Antepartum doulas work much like postpartum doulas โ€” providing private, in-home care for expectant mothers who canโ€™t fully care for themselves or manage their usual responsibilities. Your doula helps reduce stress and makes bed rest or activity restriction as comfortable as it can be.

Learn moreShow less

As your antepartum caretaker, we provide:

  • Personalized prenatal support
  • Constant monitoring of mom-to-beโ€™s overall wellness
  • Home organization
  • All meal planning, grocery shopping and meal preparation
  • Accompaniment to appointments
  • Errands
  • Local resources

Your antepartum doula can also help you prepare for what to expect in a complicated or premature delivery, procedures in the NICU, and for bringing home your premature baby or babies.

Labor & Birth Doula Support

Your doula is by your side through labor and delivery. Using a labor doula decreases your chance of a cesarean, has been known to shorten labor, and can reduce your need for medication.

Learn moreShow less

She meets with you before your baby is born to learn your hopes and expectations for labor, and is available throughout your pregnancy to address your questions, needs and concerns. Your doula is on-call for you 24 hours a day, two weeks before and after your due date (approximately weeks 38โ€“42).

Your Hip to Heart labor doula will support you by:

  • Offering emotional support before, during and after labor and birth
  • Helping you write a birth wish list according to your preferences, guided by our expertise
  • Sharing physical comfort measures she or your partner can provide during labor and birth โ€” light-touch massage, breathing patterns and position changes
  • Helping you advocate for yourself during birth
  • Understanding the birth process and helping you see how labor is progressing
  • Giving one-on-one attention
  • Gently helping initiate breastfeeding within an hour after birth

Postpartum & Overnight Support

We use our knowledge and experience to help you transition seamlessly and confidently to life with your new baby. We care for you and your family while you heal and rest โ€” taking over meal prep, errands and light housework so you can spend those precious first weeks bonding with your baby.

Weโ€™re experts with multiples and can help you manage the logistics of caring for two or more babies. Your postpartum doula also helps you process the many emotions that come with pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum โ€” with compassion and competency. Your doula is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via phone, text and email, for as long as you need her.

As your familyโ€™s postpartum caretaker, we provide:

  • Personalized postpartum support
  • Constant monitoring of momโ€™s overall wellness
  • Extensive knowledge of breastfeeding and any issues that may arise
  • Infant feeding support (breast, bottle, or formula)
  • Evidence-based information about newborn care
  • Infant soothing techniques
  • Partner inclusion
  • Education and demonstration on babywearing
  • Full meal planning, grocery shopping and preparation
  • Light housekeeping and organization
  • Sibling inclusion and care
  • Assistance with pets

Lactation Support

Breastfeeding is one of the greatest gifts you can give your baby and yourself โ€” but it isnโ€™t always easy. Our certified lactation professionals are here to help.

Learn moreShow less

By watching you feed your baby and paying attention to every detail, we offer suggestions and techniques to help you and your baby get โ€” and stay โ€” on the right track.

Our lactation support includes a 2โ€“3 hour visit in your home for maximum comfort. Afterward, we provide a detailed care plan and unlimited phone and email support for as long as you need. Whether your baby is starting solids, getting a tooth, or youโ€™re thinking about weaning, we remain committed to helping you.

Meet the founder

The heart and soul behind Hip to Heart.

Serving
families
since 2009

My journey into the world of pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding began with my own empowering experiences โ€” including welcoming two of my daughters right at home in the Boston area, where I live with my husband, our three incredible daughters, two cats, and a dog.

Driven by a passion for learning and excellence in the perinatal field, I am a certified Postpartum Doula and Lactation Educator. My commitment to elevating birth and postpartum care led me to the CAPPA Faculty, where I proudly serve as the Postpartum Doula and Lactation Educator Trainer for New England.

Hip to Heart grew from that calling. Today, our team of 64+ trained, vetted doulas carries the same heart and rigor into every family's home across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Southern New Hampshire.

Voices from our families

Loved by families across New England.

"

Jodi was a lifesaver during the fourth trimester and beyond. Her calm support, patient listening, and flexible troubleshooting was so important to help our family adjust to our new rhythms, especially after a complicated labor. Jodi balances helping immediate needs and teaching and coaching to manage without her in the future. She taught us so much and we recommend post-partum doula support to all of our friends planning to grow their family.

I met Jodi at a networking event several months ago. I was so impressed by her warmth and obvious passion for her work that I hired her to provide Doula services for a close friend of mine who was struggling. Jodi has a gift for reaching women who feel scared and uncertain after childbirth. She offers a wonderful combination of teaching and coaching and a little cooking as well!

Your questions answered

What to know before you call.

Everything overwhelmed parents tend to ask at 11pm โ€” answered in plain English, no jargon.

A doula supporting an older sibling with the new baby
How quickly can someone start with my family?
It depends on your timeline and what you need, but many families are matched within a week of their consultation. If you're due soon or already home with a newborn, let us know on the call โ€” we move faster when the need is urgent.
What if my doula isn't the right fit?
Matching is Jodi's job, and she takes it seriously โ€” but if something feels off, we re-match. You won't be stuck with a doula who isn't working for you. One call is all it takes.
Do you accept HSA/FSA or insurance?
Many families use HSA or FSA funds for postpartum doula care โ€” we provide the receipts and documentation your plan needs. Most insurance doesn't yet cover doula care directly, but we'll help you navigate what's available.
What happens at the consultation?
A 30-minute call with Jodi. She asks about your due date or baby's age, what kind of support you're imagining, your home setup, and any specific needs. No contracts, no commitments โ€” just enough information to match you well.
How do you match us with a doula?
Jodi personally matches every family. She considers your schedule, location, specific needs (multiples, older siblings, feeding support, cultural considerations), and personality fit. Our team of 64+ is deep enough to match thoughtfully โ€” not just place the next available person.
What areas do you serve?
We serve new families across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Southern New Hampshire. If you're unsure whether you're in our area, mention your town on the consultation call โ€” we'll tell you straight.
